Film premiere

In 2007 the Sydney Dance Company appointed 29-year-old choreographer Tanja Liedtke as their first new artistic director in 30 years. However before she could take up the position, she was struck and killed by a truck in the middle of the night.

Admired internationally as a dancer and celebrated for her fresh choreographic voice, she was known as a dedicated artist, intelligent, dorky, funny and generous.

18 months after her death her collaborators embark on a world tour of her work, and in the process they must deal with their grief and explore the reasons for her death. Interspersed with intimate footage of her artistic process and previously unseen interviews, Life in Movement is a film about moving creatively through life and loss. Filmmakers Bryan Mason and Sophie Hyde give us a powerfully rendered take on art and artists, creativity and our own mortality.

DV8 - Dead Dreams of Monochrome men
directed by:  David Hinton

Dead Dreams of Monochrome Men is a legendary piece by the well known British group DV8, lead by choreographer Lloyd Newson. After its TV premiere in 1990, everything changed forever in the field of contemporary dance, specifically in the physical theatre.

"... painful but original, with precise observations, filled with compassion, but also passion..." The Times (London)

Trupa To

In this 30 minute experimental dance film, created between 2008 and 2011, seven dancers in conjunction with nature create their own intimate world. The circling of water, the never ending fields and abstract structures intertwine through the natural cycles. Movement  is creative in a subtle manner and disappears in rythmic sequences accompanied by the original music of Jenane Fremaux.

In November we continue with Monday dance film screenings. All screenings are taking place on Mondays at 7pm, at the mediateque of Zagreb Dance Centre. Entry to all screenings is free!

In the first half of the month we will be showing a two-piece film by one of the world's leading authors Angelin Preljoçaj - MC14/22 ''ceci est mon corps'' & ''Le Songe de Médée'', which represent the ballet ansamble of Paris Opera.

7.11.2011. | 19:00 h
MC14/22 ''ceci est mon corps'' portrays an encounter of the spiritual and the physical, and finds its inspiration in thr Last Supper according to the biblical record of St.Mark: "Take, eat, this is my body". The work is designed for twelve male dancers - Preljoçajev's "apostles of motion" - and to the sound background created by Tedd Zahmal. This exceptionally sensual and passionate piece is an ode to the male body, baren to the pure irreality, in which glorification of strength and the damnation of force are conflicted.

14.11.2011. | 19:00 h
The dreamy ''Le Songe de Médée'', performed to the musical soundtrack by the composer Mauro Lanza, is loosely based on the greek myth of Medea - it explores the female soul, and is also a display of a woman who is at the same time a caring mother and a victim that sacrifices everything, including her own children.
