BLACK for authors Martina Nevistić and Iva Korenčić is not a colour. BLACK is a visual impression which arises when light cannot reach any part of the eye’s visual spectrum. It is a pigment which soaks up all wave lengths. A symbol, in its core, most purest meaning of – emptiness, absence, nothing. The authors through the medium of film and dance investigate the possibility of erasing all emmision of any meaning at times through contradicting methods.

The goal is to work with contrasts: locate the stronger, more powerful side of the performer, as well as their volatile, more fragile side. From which angles and how do these manifest themselves and how do they interact? How do these extreme contexts function and co-exist? This work celebrates the „dancing body“, and is dedicated to its inventiveness and its capacity to engage in direct communication between instinct and action. At the very core is the desire to achieve a strong physicality which underlines the beauty and power of the body in motion.

The choreography was nominated for a Croatian Theatre Award in the category of “best performance as a whole”. Recently it was featured at a dance festival in Algeria - “La 4 edition du Festival culturel international de la danse conteporaine Algeria’’.

Irena Mikec

Young choreographer Irena Mikec, artist in resident at Zagreb Dance Centre, creates an intimate work consisting of spaces and zones at the rim of which performers strive to encounter each other through suspenseful delays.
Irena Mikec is this season’s Croatian representative in the international project Choreoroam EU – a collaboration between dance organizations in Croatia, Italy, Great Britain, Spain and The Netherlands.
